about the mural

Mission Statement:

  • To bring the diverse communities of Brunswick, Maine and Trinidad, Cuba together in a shared project that will add to the uniqueness and beauty of Brunswick’s downtown area and celebrate the sister city relationship.
  • To create an opportunity for local artists, businesses, high school, middle school and Bowdoin College students and other community individuals, to work together to create a new artistic statement in the business area.
  • To create a large bright area of color, beauty, movement and cultural significance and to broaden the base of community understanding of Trinidad, Cuba and the Brunswick-Trinidad Sister City Association.

Subject:

  • The mural celebrates the cultures of Brunswick Maine and Trinidad Cuba and will include such scenes as a market place, baseball, music, dance, historic connections and local industries such as fishing and lobstering, The designs of Trinidad middle school students will be used on the tile-like arches in the mural that frame each scene.

Artist:

  • Christopher Cart from Hallowell, Maine. Christopher has done various workshops with the Regional Arts Program in Augusta and Brunswick and has his art displayed in many local and statewide locations. For more information about the artist, visit www.christophercart.com.

Location: Abracadabra – 11 Pleasant St.  The best way to see the mural is in person, on location.  This is a beautiful piece of art, well worth a trip from away to see.
